"A cracking PA" - Venue magazine

In November 2001, AMG opened its third 'Academy' branded venue in Bristol. Carling Academy Bristol has fast become an essential part of the local nightlife, bringing its unique blend of quality live music and top UK club nights to the West Country.

A key date on the UK's touring circuit, Carling Academy Bristol has seen a host of internationally acclaimed artists take the stage in its exciting history. From Gallows to The Kooks, Public Enemy to Jusice; the venue has proved itself to artists and audiences alike as the place to experience live music in Bristol.

A wide variety of club nights have been successfully introduced, which include Ramshackle every Friday and Saturday club residencies vary each month, with regular, specialist events courtesy of leftfield and breakbeat supremos, BlowPop, as well as hard dance nights through to house classics. Drum & Bass nights come from Revolution, One Nation and Full Cycle.

AMG is very proud of the part the venue has already played in enriching the vibrant cultural life of the city, building on the unrivalled success of its sister Academy venues.

In December 2007, Portishead marked their comeback with a one-off show at the Academy and in 2005, Portishead and Carling Academy Bristol supported the Tsunami Crisis by hosting an exclusive charity gig by Bristol’s legendary musicians Massive Attack alongside Robert Plant and The Coral.

Carling Academy Bristol’s eclectic diary of events presents literally hundreds of gig and club nights all year round and the management team focuses strongly on offering audiences in the South West the highest quality artists with the best in-house sound, lighting and service in the business. In November 2006, Carling Academy celebrated its 5th anniversary with 12 hours of entertainment to engage the local community and hosted a photographic exhibition featuring over 250 live prints on display.

To facilitate this, an extensive programme of internal developments are continually undertaken improving sightlines, capacity, toilet facilities, bar access, and production - ensuring that the Academy brand is synonymous with the very best in live music and clubbing with excellent facilities on offer to the customer, artist and client alike.

In June 2006, AMG added a secondary venue, Carling Academy 2 Bristol; a 350 capacity production-complete, stand-alone gig venue that also acts as an additional area for club nights. Since opening, acts that have gone on to great things from here include Gallows, The Enemy and The Hold Steady.

The Artists: Since opening, live music shows include: Mark Ronson, Gogol Bordello, Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Gossip, We Are Scientists, The WOMBATS, Dizzee Rascal, Get Cape.Wear Cape.Fly, PJ Harvey, Lethal Bizzle, Faithless, Kings Of Leon, Stereophonics, Richard Ashcroft, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Sugababes, Calvin Harris.
